Got my first Britannia today
Year 2000, still in its little plastic holder with the card. What a beautiful coin.
The picture at APMEX did not do it justice. I now know why some collect coins instead of just bulk bullion bars. :shine: |
Re: Got my first Britannia today
Congrats!!:shakehand I know what you mean, I was a bit stunned when I first saw the gold britannia proof set I had bought sight unseen.
Even my wife said "don't even tell me what those cost!" |
Re: Got my first Britannia today
Someone (not me)was selling brits for around 26 over on kitco.

Re: Got my first Britannia today
I had some 2008 Britannias. I thought the coin didn't do the APMEX picture justice. Seriously, I ended up trading them for prior year pandas at a local shop. Maybe the prior years or later years are better. I was disappointed.

Re: Got my first Britannia today
I'm very glad I just bought a 2003 proof set. Can't wait to see it in person.

Re: Got my first Britannia today
I have never been disappointed with a Britannia. I just bought another 2007 the other day. I never get tired of looking at Kookaburra's and Britannia's. If anyone out there is disappointed in their Brit's or Kooks let me know and I would GLADLY buy them off of you at a reasonable price, or trade you.

Re: Got my first Britannia today
I want some brits for a reasonable price. Only 2 or 3. What years?
See my thread, then you will know what I want. |
Re: Got my first Britannia today
How could you be so disappointed with Brits?
I know they are "Brits" but ASEs disappoint me all the time. Libertads ROCK IMO ANY OF THESE? This is what is available on APMEX right now. https://www.apmex.com/Resources/Cata.../31684_Obv.jpg https://www.apmex.com/Resources/Cata.../11455_Obv.jpg OR This one, https://www.apmex.com/Resources/Cata...s/1111_Obv.jpg |
Re: Got my first Britannia today
I love kookaburra's. This one disappointed me in person. It looked very flat and boring in comparison to the frosty/polished contrast of the newer kookaburras and pandas.

The Silver ASE is boring? What?!? Look at the detail and the symbolism of the walking Liberty, with the stars and stripes and the alternating smooth and striped texture.

Re: Got my first Britannia today
The 2003 is a must have, surprised that apmex has any because they get gone rapidly. The 2008 coin was a disappointment to me, it is flat and has little detail compared to the previous designs. Don't judge the series by the 2008.
To and including 2006, all Britannia designs were by Philip Nathan. The 2007, not by Nathan, is quite nice but misses the classic elements of the Nathan coins. In 2009, the coin series repeated the 1999 P. Nathan design. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3252/...af50d88d_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3422/...c0dfd423_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2048/...84f4a6fd_o.jpg |

Silver Pandas are awesome looking coins. The older years fetch a good premium, too. It's not too hard to spot the fakes if you just pay attention to some of the threads here. |

I love Pandas for their artistic merit and have a couple from all years since around 1997. These I'll keep as a collection. As an investment, not so much, the prevalence of counterfeits has ruined the investment value. But if you love beautiful coins, Pandas are way up there. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3384/...48cec406_b.jpg |
Re: Got my first Britannia today
That 2003 Brittania is awesome looking. I'll be keeping an eye out for one of those.

Re: Got my first Britannia today
I just realized there are proof versions of Britannias. For collecting, I like them much better!
